The ClearBlue Ionizer reduces chemicals and maintenance in swimming pools and hot tubs. This replacement cell, CBI-CELL-PSL, replenishes the minerals and lasts an average of 6 months in pools and up to 3 years in hot tubs*.

How do I get more life from the cell?

There are several things you can do to maximize the life of the mineral cell:

  • VERY IMPORTANT: Keep pH between 7.2 and 7.6 and alkalinity between 80 ppm and 120 ppm – high pH and alkalinity will cause corrosion to the electrodes, and they will degrade much faster
  • ALSO IMPORTANT: Keep TDS below 2,000 ppm – high TDS, especially with high chloride concentration, will cause corrosion to the electrodes, and they will degrade much faster
  • Keep the number setting turned down as low as possible to maintain 0.2 ppm copper – any more than that is not necessary and will degrade the cell faster
  • Test for copper regularly and turn down the number setting if the copper level drifts above 0.2 ppm
  • Test for phosphates regularly and use a phosphate remover if the level is above 200 ppb – phosphates in the water increase algae growth, which uses up copper
  • FOR MORE TIPS: Visit this blog post from the manufacturer

When do I change the cell?

If your controller has a blue number screen, it is time to replace the cell when the ‘Mineral Action’ or ‘Ionizing’ light is flashing red. If your controller has a red number screen, the ‘Ionizing’ light will be off when it’s time to replace the cell.

How do I change the cell?

You can replace the cell in minutes by hand, without tools or tape. Please see the instructions here.
